Verdient de Triple A-econoom dat predikaat?

Marcel Canoy is een econoom die een actieve rol speelt in het Nederlandse politieke en beleidseconomische debat. Hij stelt dat de beleidsdiscussie steeds verder gepolariseerd raakt. Cynici, die vinden dat er weinig goed gaat en die altijd kritiek hebben, maar die nooit met constructieve ideeën voor oplossingen komen, staan tegenover 'enge' economen 'cijferfetisjisten' die opgesloten lijken in hun eigen modellenwereld. Canoy vindt het gat tussen de 'echte' wereld en die van de ; 'enge' economen te groot en hij beoogt die kloof kleiner te maken. Met zijn boek wil hij economen verleiden boven hun wereld van modellen en cijfers uit te stijgen en zich om te vormen tot Triple A-economen. Door duidelijk te maken vanuit welk mensbeeld economen opereren en door de uitkomsten van economisch onderzoek beter in te bedden in hun maatschappelijke context, zouden de bijdragen van economen aan het politieke debat zinvoller (kunnen) worden.
